Sources for frequencies and radio advice
Where Emergency Radio UK's frequencies and advice come from: the Be Ready checklist, station details, RSGB on long wave, WorldDAB on medium wave and the British DX Club list.
Where each frequency and fact comes from (checked 25 October 2026)
- The government's emergency checklist, Be Ready (page revised 21 October 2026): it lists an FM radio powered by batteries or a crank, next to a charged power bank, and tells households to note their news stations' frequencies.
- Wikipedia, BBC Local Radio: the list of stations and their coverage areas, and the history of medium wave closures. Each station's own Wikipedia article supplied its FM and medium wave frequencies and the places each transmitter serves.
- Wikipedia, BBC Radio 4: Radio 4's FM frequency ranges.
- Wikipedia, BBC Radio 5 Live: medium wave frequencies and transmitter closures in 2026.
- RSGB, the closure of BBC long wave, 29 May 2026: Radio 4 on 198 kHz closing on 27 June 2026.
- WorldDAB, 29 September 2026: the last BBC local medium wave services (Cumbria, Derby, Gloucestershire, Norfolk, Somerset) closing by the end of 2026.
- British DX Club, UK medium wave list: medium wave transmitter sites and closure dates.
- Fire service power cut advice from Dorset and Wiltshire: crank-powered devices are a safe choice because they cannot run flat.
How the station data is kept
The finder holds 48 stations. We recheck the list every 14 days while medium wave closures continue, and immediately when a closure is announced. Where a source gives only a frequency range (parts of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland), we show the range.

- Frequencies against the BBC's own reception help pages, which we could not reach on 25 October 2026.
- Whether the 5 Live closures scheduled for 30 September 2026 (Brighton 693 kHz, Exeter 909 kHz) took place.
